Anticipated joy

We smelled spring today.

It doesn’t look like it from there, but close up, changes were happening. We could see the ice melting on top of waves, twisted like frozen paper cranes ready to take flight. We closed our eyes and felt warm air brush our cheeks. With each breath, we let out a little bit of our winter sadness and took in big gulps of anticipated joy.

Warmer days give us another chance to check in. They’re a great time to let go of the old and prepare for the new. We see it in nature around us- shaking off it’s snowy blankets and giving way to renewed life.

We may not hibernate like bears, but a small part of ourselves shut down this winter in self preservation. We had to figure out a way to make it through short dark days. Today, we felt a little tug telling us to wake up. To give up the lazy comforts of winter, and prepare ourselves for a brighter, lighter season ahead.
